What Are Air Probes?

Posted on August 4, 2020 John Symond

The air probe is sometimes referred to as an air evaluation, air plug gage, air axle or mandrel. It is built up of a precise and grounded solidified steel body that consolidates for (at least) two air gage spouts. In other words, it is a measuring device that tests the amount or degree of air is passing through to a nozzle. The way this works is by having air sent through the test body to the spouts where a back weight or back pressure is then created by the outside of the workpiece. The shield that can form as a result is punctured which then allows gas or air to stream into the sensor. When utilizing an air/gas test, maintenance workers ensure the test materials are perfect with the gases present in the air that will be measured. These surface tests are utilized to measure the temperatures of surfaces. For a detailed look on such air probe parts, read the article below.

Understanding Power Connectors

Posted on July 13, 2020 John Smith

If you’ve ever used an electronic device, you are likely familiar with what a power connector is and what it does. Putting in frankly, power connectors provide a transport of power from one outlet to another. Though there are various power connectors that convey power and information, there are a few connectors that are utilized explicitly to give power connections toh gadgets. These types of power connectors can fluctuate generally by application and size, but for this article we will focus solely on the most common power connectors, including but not limited to barrel connectors, molex connectors, and others. yet we will just concentrate on probably the most widely recognized ones here.

Vertical Speed Indicator

Posted on May 28, 2020 John Smith

There are six basic flight instruments in nearly every aircraft. These include the airspeed indicator, altimeter, attitude indicator, heading indicator, turn coordinator, and the vertical speed indicator. Each of them plays an important role in flight and instantaneously provides the pilot with key flight information. This blog will focus on the vertical speed indicator, including what it is and how it works.

What Forces Act on an Aircraft?

Posted on May 14, 2020 John Smith

The primary forces that act on an aircraft and affect flight are thrust, drag, lift, and weight. The understanding of and ability to control each of these forces is crucial to proper and efficient flight. This blog will define each of them, provide insight into what makes these forces occur, and describe how they affect an aircraft during flight.

Types and Applications of Springs

Posted on April 20, 2020 John Smith

From small consumer products to heavy duty industrial equipment, springs are found in all types of machinery. A spring is a storage device for mechanical energy and is most commonly classified by the way a load is applied to it. Springs have three basic types: compression spring, extension spring, and torsion spring. Compression springs are designed to operate with a compressive load. These are found in things like shock absorbers, spring mattresses, mechanical pencils, and retractable pens. Extension springs are intended to support tensile loads. A fun example of this spring is the Slinky, though they are also found in luggage scales and garage door mechanisms. Torsion springs are designed to operate with torque, and are found in items such as clothespins and mouse traps.

The Basics of Marine Electronics

Posted on February 19, 2020 John Smith

Understanding the many uses and functions of your marine electronic parts can be almost as difficult as navigating an expansive body of water without their help. Often, by the time you have finally mastered the electronics at your disposal, they have already become obsolete due to the release of new and updated versions. To help you understand what marine electronic parts you need on your boat, you must first understand the parts that are available to you. The most basic marine electronic parts at your disposal are AIS, chartplotters, EPIRBs & PLBs, fishfinders, MFDs, radar, and VHF radio. This blog will look at each of these parts and provide a brief explanation of them.

What is The Life Expectancy of the Marine Engine

Posted on February 6, 2020 John Smith

When acquiring new marine engine parts for your vessel, you first have to consider what you most want from the new parts. Some may prefer the power or efficiency, but for many consumers, they are looking for life expectancy. Regardless of whatever type of marine engine that you acquire, the life expectancy is largely dependent on the adverse conditions that surround the engine. If the engine is well maintained, the part can run at great capacity within  1000 hours without any major issues. Some of the more advanced versions even have the capacity to run on up to 1500 miles.

These are Types of Valves Used on Ships

Posted on January 22, 2020 John Smith

One of the most important valves used on a ship is the gate valve. Gate valves are typically made out of cast iron, cast carbon steel, ductile iron, gunmetal, stainless steel, alloy steels, and forged steels. Main gate valve parts include the spindle wheel, spindle rod, bonnet, valve disc, and bore or body. The opening of a gate valve will allow for only a full flow of liquid in one direction. There are valves that offer more functionality in the amount of liquid permitted to pass and in what direction, but for a simple and reliable open and close ship valve, the gate valve is perfect.

What are Aircraft-Stalls and How to Recover From Them?

Posted on January 9, 2020 John Symond

In aviation, a stall is an aerodynamic condition in which an aircraft exceeds its critical angle of attack, and can no longer produce the required lift to maintain normal flight. While they use the same word, a flight stall is drastically different from an engine stall, which aircraft, as well as automobiles, can experience. An engine stall is a mechanical failure, while a flight stall is an aerodynamic failure and loss of lift.

What Is a Jet Drive Boat and Is It The Same as a Stern Drive?

Posted on December 12, 2019 James Smith

If you’re a novice with boating, but are interested in delving deeper into the field, it’s important to learn certain basics of how different boats use different mechanisms to function. A good place to start would be with smaller water jet driven boats. If you’ve ever surveyed a lakeside, you might have seen the jet driven boat at work. Look closely enough and you can see that water is being driven out from the jet placed behind the boat. This is basically how the boat is able to propel itself forward. You can find a basic and helpful description of this marine jet drive part below.

What are The Basic Types of Aircraft Landing Gear ?

Posted on November 28, 2019 James Smith

Each model of aircraft is uniquely suited to its intended application. Regardless of what functions an aircraft has to serve, a commonality across all aircraft is the need for reliable landing gear. Aircraft landing gear come in two distinctions: fixed gear and retractable gear. As with any aircraft component, each type has its advantages and disadvantages. This blog will provide an explanation of basic aircraft landing gear types, their features, and functionalities.

MRO of Aircraft Tire and Brakes

Posted on November 19, 2019 John Symond

When we think of aircraft functionality, we tend to forgo the importance of the wheels and brakes. Although the main functionality of aircraft is to fly, wheels and brakes are what enable the aircraft to both start movement, and safely land at their various destinations. They are expensive and important components, and often are subjected to great deterioration with every flight. With wear and tear of any aerospace part comes the need for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO).
